Solidarity Hour... The One with Brennan Roorda
Still in his early 30’s, Brennan Roorda has packed a lot in his relatively short life – West Point graduate, Masters in Diplomacy Studies, fluent in Arabic, Italian and Spanish, marriage, 3 kids, all while living in 7 countries and building his military career.
Brennan joined us to talk about his journey from creating a “life plan” in the 6th grade (yes, we’re smiling) to pursing a highly sought-after, fiercely competitive spot in a military academy, graduating 22nd in his class, to adjusting to life in the Middle East during Arab Spring.
He also talked openly about experiencing his first real set back while pursuing his Ranger tab and the disappointment of that experience – it was his “circle of suck” moment in the Army – which impacted him psychologically and emotionally but also represented an important, and positive, turning point in his life.
Finally, he shared a bit about the challenges and struggles of having values and beliefs that are more progressive than those of the institution in which he serves – i.e., being “a little different” – and how he’s been able to successfully navigate, adapt and thrive.
Brennan, you have the power to inspire and be a beacon to others. Thank you for your service!
