Special: Black, Brown & White - Black
Summary
In June 2020, we had Dr. Francesca Fajinmi, from UCLA join us for the ThinqShift Solidarity Hour sharing how she was processing Black Lives Matter. We were touched, moved and inspired to do a special 4 part series on race. We decided to treat it as an opportunity to expose our own vulnerabilities by sharing our stories of growing up, black, brown and white, exposing how that has shaped our identity and normative beliefs on race. Over the series we also describe what we can all do, as individuals, companies and at a societal level to move the needle.
In This Episode
In this episode, Vips and Vicki chat with Francesca as they explore what it was like growing up as a black kid in London and Nigeria. Francesca shares openly and vulnerably:
1. Daily examples of the handicap experienced having black skin
2. Francesca breaks down as she shares a heartbreaking conversation that her 3 year old grandson had with his aunt
3. We challenge her to wear her gorgeous hair “au natural”
See you next week and in the meantime, Be Fabulous!
